Claire Valdez is an American politician from New York City.[1]

Early life

Valdez moved to New York City from Texas in 2019.[2]

Career

Valdez is a program assistant in the visual arts program at Columbia University.[3]

She is an activist with the Democratic Socialists of America.[4] She is a unionist with the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America International Union.[5]

Political career

In the 2024 New York State Assembly election, Valdez was a candidate in the 37th district. In the Democratic Party primary, Valdez defeated incumbent Juan Ardila by 27 percentage points.[6] She had been endorsed by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.[7] She had the support from the Working Families Party.[8] She will run unopposed for the seat in the November general election.

Personal life

Valdez lives in Ridgewood, Queens.[9] She is of Latino descent.[10]
