Christian Del Bianco (born August 31, 1997) is a Canadian professional lacrosse goaltender who is currently on holdout most recently playing for the Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League (NLL).[1] [2] Drafted 15th overall in the second round in the 2015 NLL Entry Draft, he has played his entire NLL career in Calgary. In November 2022, he was re-signed for two more years to the end of the 2024 NLL season.[3]
Del Bianco announced via social media on July 23, 2024 that he chose not to re-sign with Calgary to focus on off floor endeavors. Del Bianco remains a free agent as of October 2024.Calgary still owns rights to Del Bianco under the CBA but he will not be returning to Calgary.[4]
Del Bianco was named to the NLL All-League 2nd Team in 2019.[5] Heading into the 2023 NLL season, Inside Lacrosse named Del Bianco the #5 best goalie in the NLL.[6]
Del Bianco was named the 2023 NLL Goalie of the Year and MVP, having set a league record for most minutes played by a goalie in a season, and leading the Roughnecks to their highest win total in club history.[7] Del Bianco is just the second goalie to win NLL MVP, after Steve Dietrich in 2006, and the third non-forward to win the award, following Dietrich and transition player Jeff Shattler in 2011.[8]
