The Cholistani is a breed of domestic sheep from Punjab, Pakistan.[1] Though the Cholistani grows wool, it is raised primarily for meat.[2]
This breed has a black to brown head and ears with a white body. They have stubby, small ears and are locally called 'Buchi'.[1] The Cholistani has a long tail.[2]
Mature rams weigh 48.5kg (106.9lb) and ewes weigh 34kg (75lb). On average, the average height at the withers of mature rams is 75cm (30inches) and ewes is 66cm (26inches). At birth and on average, rams weigh 3.5kg (07.7lb) and ewes weigh 3kg (07lb).[2]
Ewes have an average litter size of 1.05 lambs. During an average lactation cycle of 110 days, ewes produce 45kg (99lb) of milk.[2]
From 1986 to 1996, the world population of the Cholistani decreased from 275,964 to 33,025 respectively. In 1986, there were an average of 120 per flock and artificial insemination was not used.[2]
