Chittagong Export Processing Zone Explained

Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ), also known as Chittagong EPZ, is the first and one of the eight export processing zones in Bangladesh located at South Halishahar in Chittagong.[1] It was established in 1983.[2] In 2010, CEPZ was ranked third in the best cost-competitiveness category and fourth as the best economic potential in the global ranking in a survey among the world's 700 economic zones carried out by FDi magazine.[3] Up to 2022-23, the EPZ has received cumulative investment of US$2.04 billion[4] and have generated cumulative exports of US$40.5bn.[5]

Facilities

Chittagong Export Processing Zine has been established on a area of 453 acres with 501 industrial plots having average plot size of about 2000 sq.m. [6] The zone has water supply by a service oriented treatment plan of Chattogram WASA, gas supply by Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited and power supply from a service oriented power plant run by PDB through own sub-station.[7] The current tariff for renting per sq.m. of plot in this EPZ is US$2.5.[6]
