Charkop is a locality in the suburb of Kandivali (West), North Mumbai, India. Charkop's original name is 'Char Khop'(चार खोप) meaning a place of 4 huts or a small village with four houses in Marathi. Koli people or the fishermen are considered to be the indigenous residents of Charkop. They are a very old community who had presence in mumbai even before the Britishers or Portuguese when naming this village at that time it only have 4 huts (झोपडी) but now this village is grown by population nearly 5000 people are living in the Charkop koliwada, also they have their own temples and own festivals and unique culture.

Charkop is one of the oldest localities in Kandivali, comprising nine residential sectors.It also has an industrial sector consisting of the house of Associated Capsules Private Ltd., IPCA Laboratories, Bhooj Adda and many other major industries.

Demographics

Charkop's original inhabitants are from the Koli community, primarily fishermen. The locality is predominantly Hindu, but it also has small communities of Christians, Sikhs, Parsees, and Dalit Buddhists. Muslims reside together in clusters, particularly in the cosmopolitan area of Ganesh Nagar, near Malad. Most residents belong to the lower middle-class or middle-class category, with service-based professions and businesses operating in the Ganesh Nagar (Ganesh Chowk) area and the Charkop Industrial Estate. The population is mainly Maharashtrian, followed by Gujarati and other ethnic groups.
