Charencey (in French pronounced as /ʃaʁɑ̃sɛ/) is a commune in the department of Orne, northwestern France. The municipality was established on 1 January 2018 by merger of the former communes of Saint-Maurice-lès-Charencey (the seat), Moussonvilliers and Normandel.[2]

Geography

Charencey along with the communes of Feings, Longny les Villages, Le Mage, Moutiers-au-Perche and Tourouvre au Perche is part of the Forets, etangs et tourbieres du Haut-Perche a Natura 2000 conservation site.[3] The site measures 3670 hectares and is home to the following fourteen protected Flora and Fauna[4] ;

  4. European stag beetle
  5. Northern crested newt
  6. Lesser horseshoe bat
  7. Greater horseshoe bat
  8. Western barbastelle

  10. Bechstein's bat
  11. Greater mouse-eared bat
  12. floating water-plantain.
