Cats and Peachtopia, released in some regions as Cats,[1] is a 2018 Chinese animated fantasy film directed and written by Gary Wang, produced by Light Chaser Animation Studios. The film follows a cat named Blanket who embarks on an adventure to find its son who thinking about the cat's paradise.
Cats was originally released in China on 5 April 2018. But direct-to-video in the United States on 24 January 2020.
Blanket is a chartreux that was adopted by a girl as a kitten, he believed that the outside world was a dangerous place and spent his day on the warm cushion of the house.
Years later, Blanket’s son. a curious and lively calico kitten named Cape, looks out of the window where he chases the birds and wants to know what the street is like. He constantly asks her father to play outside. His curiosity is fueled by a story Blanket told to him about his mother being in Peachtopia, “a place where cats live happily" Cape then leaves the apartment he lives and decided to finally reach its dream of going to Peachtopia, the kitten flies along the river with a rocket toy, paragliding across the city and manages to reach the forest at the foot of the mountain. He ends up in a factory of animal-shaped glass statues.
However, the factory is guarded by a group of raccoons that later chases Cape, but he is saved by a gibbon who introduces to him a pub inside a abandoned train car that serves as the other animals secret lair and meets a wise, old black cat that used to live in Cape's apartment many years ago. The old cat then tells to Cape that in the factory, dozens of wild animals are kidnapped by the factory workers and turned into statues. Noticing its son's disappearance, Blanket accompaines Mack to the factory and learns that Cape is being risked of being turned in a statue. While the raccoons went out to search for the lost necklace on the boss’s order. But they are stopped by Blanket who ended up meeting the old cat in the factory´s garden and tells to them that all the animals are in danger.
While Blanket finally finds Cape, the raccoons ends up freeing all animals then escape from the factory workers through a whale statue that ends up guiding them to underwater, soon, they arrive at beautiful place full of peach trees that turns out to be nothing more than Peachtopia. Blanket then talks to Cape and laments that his mother is dead, but he says that no matter what is your dream, you can search whatever the place he can go in the heart.
In the post-credits scene, all the animals move to Blanket and Cape's apartment, while Cape is exploring through a space station.
The film earned $1,658,338 on its opening weekend and finished with a total gross of $3,424,207.[2]
