It is located to the west of the town centre and is separated by the River Weaver and two bridges. It had a population of 9,226, including the nearby suburb of Winnington at the 2021 UK Census.[4]
Castle Northwich was historically a township in the parish of Witton until 1894. When the parish and township were abolished and became part of the wider Northwich Urban District Council until 1974. When it too was abolished and Northwich became a civil parish and part of originally the Borough of Vale Royal until 2009 and then Cheshire West and Chester.[5] [6]
