Carlos Eduardo Espina (born December 9, 1998, in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan, Mexican and American activist for immigrant rights, former law student, content creator, and social media personality.[1] [2]

Biography

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay to a Uruguayan father and a Mexican mother, Espina migrated with his family to Texas. He studied political sciences at Vassar College, graduating in 2020; currently he is studying law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Since his teens, Espina has been an advocate for socially disadvantaged people, promoting the creation of NGOs: in 2017 he created "Football for the Future". Later on, in 2019 he established the Detained Refugee Solidarity Fund, with the purpose of supporting migrants and refugees detained in ICE detention centers.[3] During December of 2020, he was known as El cartero de los inmigrantes (The immigrant postman in English) when he wrote letters to immigrants detained by ICE with 15 dollars in the envelope along with the letter to call their families. [4]

Currently he is also a social media content creator, with millions of followers on TikTok.[1] [5]

In June 2024, Espina was summoned by Vice President Kamala Harris, and shortly afterwards, by President Joe Biden.[6] Then, on August 21, 2024, Espina delivered a speech at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.[7] [8]
