The responsibilities for this position are vague, since its establishment in May 2021, however the officeholder was on the receiving end of questions relating to Senedd reform,[4] while also expressing the officeholder's opinion on the state of intergovernmental relations with the UK Government,[5] such as the dispute over the Trade Union (Wales) Act 2017,[6] and how UK Government laws impact Wales.[7] The officeholder also commissioned reports on how local democracy works in Wales,[8] and oversaw pilots on the issue.[9]
The position was retired in September 2024 as a specific role by First Minister Eluned Morgan. The role's responsibilities were passed to other portfolios.
