Bruno J. M. T. G. van Pottelsberghe de la Potterie (born 17 August 1968 in Uccle, Brussels, Belgium)[1] is a Belgian economist and the incoming Rector of Corvinus University of Budapest, effective from August 2024,[2] onwards. He is known for his leadership experience in higher education and for his extensive scientific work in economics of innovation (effectiveness of science and technology policies, and of intellectual property policies).

Early life and education

Bruno van Pottelsberghe was born in Belgium in August 1968. From 1970 to 1978, he lived in Zaïre (currently RDC). He graduated from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) with a Bachelor in Economics in 1990, a Master in Business Economics in 1992, a research Master in Econometrics in 1994, and a Master in International Relations in 1995. In 1998, he obtained a Ph.D. in Economics with highest honors from the same university. His doctoral dissertation, supervised by Prof. Henri Capron, was entitled "Assessing the Efficiency of Science and Technology Policies inside the Triad".[3]

Van Pottelsberghe's research activity focuses on innovation and patents, with over 60 published articles in peer-reviewed journals, more than 14,000 citations on Google Scholar,[10] and an H-index of 55, as of August 2024. He has supervised 11 Ph.D. students.
