Brahim Merad (born 22 August 1953) is the Algerian Minister of Interior and Local Government. He was appointed as minister on 9 September 2022.[1] [2]
Merad graduated at the École nationale d'administration.[3]
From 1995 until 1997, Merad was the wali of Annaba. He was also a wali in Tiaret, Boumerdes, Médéa and Tizi Ouzou.[4]
He also worked as advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of shadow areas.[5] [6]
On 21 May 2021, Merad was appointed Mediator of the Republic.[7]
Since 9 September 2022, Merad has been the Minister of the Interior.[8]
On August 5, 2024, as part of the 2024 Algerian presidential election, he was appointed director of Abdelmadjid Tebboune's electoral campaign, without it being specified whether he remains in his role as Minister of the Interior.[9]
