Bolesław is a village in Olkusz County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Bolesław. It lies approximately 7km (04miles) west of Olkusz and 430NaN0 north-west of the regional capital Kraków.[1]
The village was founded in 1279 by Polish monarch Bolesław V the Chaste and named after him. In 1814, a calamine mine was opened. In 1827, the village had a population of 467, which tripled by the late 19th century.[2] In the late 19th century, there was a brewery and distillery in Bolesław.[2] The village was located on a route connecting Będzin and Olkusz.[2]
