Blackfoot is a hamlet in east-central Alberta, Canada within the County of Vermilion River. It is located north of Highway 16, approximately west of Lloydminster.

History

The first post office opened in 1905 as "Blackfoot Hills" and changed to just "Blackfoot" in 1909.[1] Telephone service was established in 1907.[2]

Demographics

In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Blackfoot had a population of 386 living in 139 of its 150 total private dwellings, a change of from its 2016 population of 407. With a land area of, it had a population density of in 2021.[3]

As a designated place in the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Blackfoot had a population of 392 living in 146 of its 153 total private dwellings, a change of from its 2011 population of 269. With a land area of 0.89km2, it had a population density of in 2016.[4]

The County of Vermilion River's 2015 municipal census counted a population of 420 in Blackfoot.[5]
