Bird-Brain is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

Publication history

Bird-Brain first appeared in The New Mutants #55 (September 1987), and was first fully seen in The New Mutants #56 (October 1987). The character was created by Louise Simonson and June Brigman.^[1]

Fictional character biography

Bird-Brain is one of the "Ani-Mates", a group of humanoid animals who the Ani-Mator created and experimented on. However, he escapes and befriends the New Mutants.^{[2] [3]} They attempt to acclimate him into human society, which fails due to his insatiable hunger.^[4] Additionally, he possesses a simplistic language that only Cypher can understand.^{[4] [5] [6]}

Bird-Brain develops close relationships with Cypher and Wolfsbane, viewing the latter as a kindred spirit.^[7] He and the New Mutants later return to the Ani-Mator's island to free the Ani-Mates, during which he decides to live there.^{[7] [8] [9]}
