He scored 11 goals in 33 appearances over two seasons for Burnley before joining West Ham United of the Southern League First Division. He made his debut in a 0–2 loss to rivals Millwall on 26 October 1901, and saw defeat in his next two appearances, against Reading and Southampton, playing different positions in each of the three games. After settling at inside-left, he was part of the team that ended the season with an unbeaten run of 11 matches.[3] [4]
