Notes
- Evans received promotion to brigadier general for his actions at First Bull Run and the Battle of Ball's Bluff effective October 21, the day of most of the action at Ball's Bluff
- On October 22, Evans' command was made the Fourth Brigade of the Fourth Division of a newly reorganized Army of the Potomac, but, as he was already engaged with Union forces and as this new organization would only last a few days, before it was replaced with another new hierarchy, it had no impact on command during the battle.
