The name was borrowed into the Russian language as "Russian: Авели́на" (Avelina).[1] Its diminutives include Avelinka (Russian: Авели́нка), Lina (Russian: Ли́на), and Ava (Russian: А́ва).
In Latin languages, the name may have been Latinized from Proto-Germanic languages.[2] It may be a diminutive of the name Avila.
