Avdil Jakupi, also spelled Avdyl Jakubi, also known by his nom de guerre "Commander Jackal",[1] [2] [3] is an Albanian commander of the Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac (UÇPMB), National Liberation Army (NLA) and Albanian National Army (ANA).[4] [5] His most known engagements were in Lipkovo and Aračinovo during the 2001 insurgency in Macedonia.
In 2003, Jakupi and fifteen other members of the ANA kidnapped a policemen and bombed front of government buildings.[6] An operation to capture the members was carried out by the Macedonian Army. In 2004, Jakupi surrendered to authorities in Kosovo,[7] where he was sentenced to fourteen years in prison for kidnapping two policemen and attempting to bomb railway lines.[8] [9]
