Aulolepis Explained

Aulolepis (from Greek, Modern (1453-);: ανλος, 'pipe' and Greek, Modern (1453-);: λεπίς 'scale')[1] is an extinct genus of prehistoric marine ray-finned fish that lived during the upper Cenomanian and early Turonian. It contains a single species, A. typus from the Chalk Group of the United Kingdom and the Hesseltal Formation of Germany.[2] [3]

It is generally classified as a member of the Ctenothrissiformes, a group of basal mid-Cretaceous acanthomorphs.[4] [5] However, one as-of-yet unpublished study has found it to be an aulopiform instead.[6]
