Aspergillus caatingaensis is a species of fungus in the genus Aspergillus. It is from the Fumigati section.[1] Several fungi from this section produce heat-resistant ascospores, and the isolates from this section are frequently obtained from locations where natural fires have previously occurred.[2] The species was first described in 2014.[1] It has been isolated from semi-desert soil in the Caatinga area in Brazil.[1]
A. caatingaensis has been cultivated on both Czapek yeast extract agar (CYA) plates and Malt Extract Agar Oxoid® (MEAOX) plates. The growth morphology of the colonies can be seen in the pictures below.
