Aspergillus avenaceus is a species of fungus in the genus Aspergillus. It is from the Flavi section.[1] The species was first described in 1943.[2] A. avenaceus has been isolated in the UK from a Pisum sativum seed, and in the United States.[1] It has been reported to produce avenaciolide and aspirochlorine.[1]
A. avenaceus has been cultivated on both Czapek yeast extract agar (CYA) plates and Malt Extract Agar Oxoid® (MEAOX) plates. The growth morphology of the colonies can be seen in the pictures below.
