Asenso Ka Pinoy (formerly Asenso Pinoy) is a Philippine weekly magazine program hosted by Francis Cardona. It aired on ABC from July 3, 2005 to August 2, 2008, and was replaced by Catscratch and ChalkZone on TV5's Saturday morning timeslot. The program also broadcast on IBC from 2006 to 2011, NBN/PTV from 2008 to 2014 and from December 2, 2023 to present, Studio 23 from 2013 to January 11, 2014, S+A from February 15, 2014 to March 15, 2020 and A2Z from November 14, 2020 to January 7, 2023.
The show presented livelihood information, including technological breakthroughs in agriculture. It's been a progressive entrepreneurship-oriented show incorporating features in travel and tourism, culture and the arts, and stories of the micro entrepreneurs.
Asenso Pinoy was launched in 2004 as an agribusiness-livelihood radio program. At almost the same time, a column with the same name is also published weekly in The Manila Times. Aired every Saturday morning since its radio premiere, the program was moved from DWSS-AM to state-run DZSR-AM Sports Radio in February 2005.[1] The program, currently airs over DZXL-AM, has been simulcast over stations and affiliates of Radyo Pilipino Media Group (RPMG; formerly Philradio).
The project was expanded later through a half-hour Sunday magazine program on television, also with the same name, which was premiered at noon of July 3, 2005, at ABC-5.[2] More than a month later, the program moved to an early Saturday afternoon slot.[3] Segments in the program feature topics related to entrepreneurship and personal development.[4]
Both programs were produced and hosted by Francisco "Francis" L. Cardona (May 26, 1957 – April 28, 2024)[5] In the programs' early years, he had been serving as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Philradio, which later became RPMG, a Tarlac-based provincial broadcast network where he eventually became its president.
Cardona's media career began in 1976 as a radio reporter.[6] He also served in the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas as a long-time director, and later as the vice president for radio.[7]
Cardona died due to pneumonia at a hospital in Quezon City in 2024.
In March 2020, production was halted due to the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program resumed on November 14, 2020 and taped before the pandemic. It was aired on A2Z every Saturday mornings at 6:30a.m. until January 7, 2023.
