After the 2006 National Census, Khondab District was separated from the county in the establishment of Khondab County, which was divided into two districts and five rural districts, with the city of Khondab as its capital.[3] Masumiyeh and Moshkabad Rural Districts were separated from the Central District in the formation of Masumiyeh District. The village of Karchan was elevated to the status of a city.[4] Saruq Rural District was also separated from the Central District to form Saruq District, which was divided into two rural districts, including the new Mashhad ol Kubeh Rural District.[4] Additionally, the village of Saruq became a city.[5] Hajjiabad Rural District was established in the Central District.[4]
