Appa (title) explained

Appa(Marathi: अप्पा) (Kannada: ಅಪ್ಪ),(Telugu:అప్ప), was a honorific title conferred to the Lingayat and Maratha Rulers of Karnataka and Maharashtra region of India.[1] [2] [3] It was a title used to indicate administrator of a region which means 'head' or 'Father'.[4] [5] It is now used as a surname in certain regions of India, especially in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana whose family received it as a title.[6] [7] [8] [9]
