Angyari Mahadev Temple Explained

Angyari Mahadev Temple in Gwaldam, Uttarakhand, is a temple situated on the border of Chamoli and Bageshwar district in the Gwaldam region of Chamoli.^[1] It is believed that the Ganga, Gomti and Bhagirathi rivers originated from here in those times. With time, the Ganga and Bhagirathi rivers slowly disappeared, while some part of the Gomti river still exists there.^{[2] [3]}

History

According to legend, Maharshi Angyari performed penance of Lord Shiva at Angyari Mahadev Temple, which pleased him. It is said that after that, Lord Shiva gave his darshan to Angyari Maharshi.^{[4] [5]}

The main part of Angyari Mahadev Temple is divided into two sections. one of these sections is located above the walkway while the other is located below it.^[6] Additionally, there is also a water source nearby that has been flowing continuously for many years.^[7] The water of this river always keeps soaking the Shivling. The temple is especially well visited during the month of Sawan.^{[8] [9]}
