Andriy Zholdak (uk|Андрій Жолдак, born 18 November 1962) is a Ukrainian theatre director.[1] [2] From 2002 to 2005 he was the director at the Kharkiv Ukrainian Drama Theatre in Kharkiv. In 2006 Zholdak moved to Germany and worked at Theater Oberhausen, Berliner Festspiele and Vienna Festival. UNESCO Award in Performing Arts (2004).
Controversy
In October 2024 Zholdak worked as a guest director for the National Opera & Ballet in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Dutch National Opera acknowledges that the controversial guest director engaged in inappropriate behavior during the production of the opera *Fidelio*. "It was the first and also the last time we worked with him," the organization stated. Following a report in *Het Parool*, the opera company detailed Zholdak’s conduct, citing impulsive, unreasonable, and intimidating behavior, including physical contact during rehearsals without prior consent, as well as unscripted scenes of sexual nature.[3]
