Sheikhvand was born and raised in Tehran, Iran.[2] He graduated from Tehran’s Gold Institute in 1994 with a bachelors degree in science.[2] He has other diplomas and Graduate Gemologist (GG) in jewellery from Gemological Institute of America (GIA).[2]
Sheikhvand blends a rich tapestry of cultural influences in his work. He was initially trained in biology and graphic design, but later pursued his passion for jewelry design.[3] His arts career is marked by a deep immersion in traditional Iranian techniques such as Malileh-kary (Filigree work) and Minakary (miniature enameling).[3] In the recent times, he has shifted focus to fine contemporary jewelry, where he combines his expertise in alternative materials and forms with the elegance of fine gems and precious metals.[4]
Sheikhvand staged solo exhibition in various Iranian galleries before moving to Canada in 1999.[5] He has crafted pieces of fine jewellery art work which are displayed in jewellery design studios in Toronto.[6] His work has been exhibited in both juried and invitational exhibitions at McMaster Museum of Art, and other Canadian museums and galleries.[7] [8] [9] He is represented by Gallery Noel Guyomarc’h in Montreal, Alternatives in Rome and Charon Kransen Arts in New York.[4]
Sheikhvand is a member of Ontario Crafts Council Board of Directors and Society of North American Goldsmiths.[2]
