Ali Akbar Ahmadian is an Iranian military officer[1] and secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC),[2] [3] a position to which he was appointed on 22 May 2023.[2] [3] He is also the current member of the Expediency Discernment Council since 2022.[4]
Ahmadian was born in 1961.[5] [6]
After a stint in the Iran-Iraq War Ahmadian served as Ali Shamkhani’s deputy commander in the IRGC Navy.[5]
Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi appointed him on 22 May 2023 to the position of Secretary of the SNSC.[2]
On 25 July 2023 Ahmadian met with Wang Yi.[7]
On 8 August 2023 Canada sanctioned Ahmadian.[8]
On 5 August 2024 Ahmadian met in Tehran with Sergei Shoigu, his Russian counterpart.[9]
