Alfred Agyenta Explained

Alfred Agyenta (born January 20, 1959) is the third outgoing Bishop of the Navrongo–Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese.[1] [2]

Early life

Agyenta was born at Wiaga in Navrongo–Bolgatanga Church, Ghana, on January 20, 1959, to Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester and Diana Agyenta. Mr. Sylvester was a carpenter and cook for the Missions in Wiaga, while Diana is a housewife.[3]

Education

Bishop Alfred Agyenta attended his primary and secondary schools in Wiaga from 1964 to 1974 and subsequently attended Notre Dame Minor Seminary Secondary School in Navrongo from 1974 to 1979 for his O-Levels. He went on to study his ‘A’ levels at Nandom High School. In 1981, he went to St. Louis. Victor's Major Seminary in Tamale ordained him on August 6, 1988, in Wiaga for the Navrongo–Bolgatanga Diocese. He served as assistant parish priest at Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Cathedral, Navrongo, from 1988 to 1991.

Most Rev. Fr. Rudolph Akanlu, who was sent to Rome to study the Holy Scriptures in the Biblicum, returned to Ghana after his studies. His bishop, Late Rev. Fr. Lucas Abadamloora, with the rest of his blessings, was appointed Teacher and Lecturer at St. Mary's of Victor's Major Seminary from 1995 to 2000. The Rev. Fr. Agyenta went to Leuven, Belgium, to pursue his doctorate and returned in 2006 as a staff member at St .Victor's and St. Peter’'s Augustine Millennium Seminary until his appointment as bishop of the Navrongo–Bolgatanga Diocese.
