Alejandra Villarreal Vélez (born 13 December 2004) is a Mexican musician. She is the bassist, backing vocalist, pianist, and songwriter for the band The Warning.
Villarreal was born in Monterrey, Mexico.
From early childhood she took part in music appreciation and dance classes. At age six she began Piano lessons.
In 2012, she began to take Bass lessons, after taking an interest in the instrument through watching concert recordings with her family. After a month of playing, she had her first outing with her sisters, playing as a band at a School Christmas Las Posadas.
The following year, with her sisters Daniela and Paulina, the band would be formally named The Warning.
Videos of the band practicing and performing covers were posted on YouTube to share with family members. In 2014, their cover of Metallica’s ”Enter Sandman” went viral, now having over 25 million views.
Alejandra's bass teacher, Pablo González Sarre (bassist for Los Claxons), encouraged the three sisters to explore songwriting and composing music.[1] [2]
The band's first single, "Free-Falling" was released on 24 March 2015 with their first EP, "Escape the Mind", following on 14 April 2015.
Through a successful gofundme campaign and a donation from The Ellen DeGeneres Show[3], the family was able to fund the three sisters to attend a 5-week training program at Berklee College of Music.[4] Alejandra was given an age-waiver as the minimum age for the course was 14, Alejandra was 10.
Alejandra plays a brown NS-5XL Spector bass and a blue Hyper Blue NS-5XL Spector bass. She uses D’Addario strings. For personal use and in small venues she uses an Orange AD200 amp.
