He was moved from the infield to catcher prior to his freshman year.[2] Rios barely played during his first two seasons with the Cardinal, appearing in eight games and going hitless in seven at-bats.[3] He moved to the outfield before the start of his junior season and entered the season in the Cardinal's starting lineup.[4] Rios battied .384 with 18 home runs and was named the Pac-12 Conference Baseball Player of the Year and a consensus first team All-American.[5]
Rios was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the third round of the 2023 Major League Baseball draft.[6] He signed with the team and received a $847,500 signing bonus.[7] Rios made his professional baseball debut on July 21 with the rookie-level Arizona Complex League Angels, going 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI against the ACL Diamondbacks. On July 25, he was promoted to the Class A Inland Empire 66ers of the California League.[8]
