In 2014, he co-founded Amorana, of which he sold a majority stake to the Lovehoney Group in 2020.[3] [4] He founded the start-up Center at the University of Zurich.
Post-Amorana, Frei founded the Alan Frei Company.[5] The business focuses on creating content and products for a life hacker community. Additionally, he works part-time as a freelance Uber Eats driver.[6]
Frei hosts a podcast and Youtube channel. He holds Swiss and Filipino citizenship.[7]
Influenced by minimalists like Andrew Hyde and Nicolas Berggruen, Alan Frei began to simplify his life in 2014.
He reduced his possessions to 70 items[8] and, by October 2020, had decided to give up his apartment, staying in hotels instead.[9] As of 2022, Frei has ended this practice.
Alan Frei began curling at age 41 in 2023 as part of a "weight loss journey", aiming to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics.[10] He is part of the Curling Winter Sports Association of the Philippines (CWSAP), which joined the World Curling Federation on September 15, 2023.[11]
Frei trains with former Swiss professional curler Marcel Käufeler and teammates Marc Pfister, Enrico Pfister, and Christian Haller.[12] Their first tournament was the 2023 Pan Continental Curling Championships (PCCC), held from October 29 to November 4 in Kelowna, British Columbia. His team placed second in the B division.[13]
