Al-Mazar Al-Shamali or Northern Al-Mazar (Arabic: المزار الشمالي) is a city in the Irbid Governorate of north-western Jordan. It's the capital city of Al Mazar al Shamali Department. Located 15 km south-west of Irbid it has a population of approximately 20,000 people and the major family (tribe or clan) is Al-Shorman. The region consists of a series of mountain ranges that reach approximately 780 meters above the sea level.

Vegetation and agriculture

Characteristics for the region is the prevalence of forests extending to hundreds of kilometers and consisting of a variety of trees such as aak, pistacia and pine.

The region relies on basic agricultural crops: wheat, barley, and some fruit trees such as peach, apricot, and almond trees. Olives are one of the most important products in the region in addition to grapes.

Location, administrative units

Al-Mazar Al-Shamali is in the southern part of Irbid Governorate with its high mountains of astonishing landscape, which are adjacent to Ajloun Mountains.[1] It consists of the following 9 areas or districts: Al-Mazar Al-Shamali, Enbah, Dayr Yousef, Rhaba, Zobia, Juhfiya, Samad, Zaatarah, Habaka, and Hofa.
