Akhmed Yakoob (born 1987 or 1988)[1]) is a British criminal defence lawyer.
Yakoob studied law at the University of Wolverhampton and graduated with a 2:2 degree classification.[2]
Yakoob was admitted as a solicitor on 15 May 2014.[3] He is a director of Maurice Andrews Solicitors, of Birmingham.
He is active on TikTok, where he has 200,000 followers.
Yakoob ran as an independent candidate in the May 2024 West Midlands mayoral election, finishing third place with almost 70,000 votes.[4] During the campaign, he posted on social media the name and workplace of a Labour canvasser, whom he accused of using racial slurs in a video. Police concluded that the canvasser did not say anything racist.[5] The Solicitors Regulation Authority opened an investigation into Yakoob's video.[6]
At the July 2024 general election, Yakoob stood as an independent candidate for the Birmingham Ladywood constituency, finishing second with 12,137 votes.[7] During the election campaign, it was revealed that he had said in a podcast that "70% of hell is going to be women", and had not condemned another guest who said he would give his wife a "backhander" if she made money dancing on TikTok. He subsequently issued an apology.
