Agustín Álvarez Martínez (born 19 May 2001) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a forward for Spanish club Elche, on loan from Italian club Sassuolo.
A youth academy graduate of Peñarol, Álvarez made his professional debut on 13 September 2020 in goalless draw against Montevideo City Torque.[2] [3] He scored his first goal on 19 September 2020 in a 3–1 league win against Plaza Colonia.[4]
On 17 June 2022, Álvarez joined Serie A club Sassuolo on a five-year deal.[5]
In May 2023, he suffered an ACL tear and missed the first half of the 2023–24 season recovering.[6]
On 18 January 2024, Álvarez moved to Sampdoria in Serie B on loan until the end of the season.[7] On 17 August, he moved to Spanish Segunda División side Elche also on loan.[8]
Álvarez is a former Uruguay youth international.[9] On 29 August 2021, he received his first call-up to senior team for FIFA World Cup qualifiers.[10] He made his debut on 5 September 2021 by scoring a goal in a 4–2 win against Bolivia.[11] On 21 October 2022, he was named in Uruguay's 55-man preliminary squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.[12]
