Adam Khoo is a Singaporean entrepreneur, author and educator. He is the co-founder and Chief Master Trainer of Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group, one of Asia's largest private educational institutions. His business interests include financial education, corporate training, learning centers and youth education.[1]
Khoo became a self-made millionaire at age 26. In 2008, Khoo was ranked among the top 25 richest Singaporeans under age 40 by The Executive magazine. In 2017, he founded Piranha Profits, an online school that teaches investing and trading courses to students worldwide.[2]
Khoo was born on 8 April 1974, to Vince Khoo and Betty L. Khoo-Kingsley. Khoo graduated with an honors degree in business administration from the National University of Singapore (NUS).[3]
While still in secondary school, Khoo started a mobile disco business with friends, creating music and providing entertainment services for parties. After completing National Service with the Singaporean Air Force at age 21, Khoo partnered with three friends from the National University of Singapore and founded an event management company, Creatsoul Entertainment. The company organized hops, jams and other entertainment activities for individuals, companies and organizations, and was later re-registered as Event Gurus Pte Ltd, an event management company.[4]
Khoo has coached insurance agents and marketing managers in sales boosting techniques. In 2002, he co-founded Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group and taught Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) to working professionals. In 2004, he authored a book on NLP, Master Your Mind, Design Your Destiny, which went on to become a national bestseller. By 2019, Khoo's methods of motivational training were considered controversial. In secondary schools, for example, Khoo would tell pupils to imagine the death of their parents, using this as a "motivational tool" to study harder.[5] [6] This caused some students to experience trauma.
While still in university, Khoo authored the book I Am Gifted, So Are You! with a foreword by Tony Buzan. The book, which covers studying strategies and motivational lessons for students, became a national best-seller in Singapore and was translated into 12 languages. In 2003, Khoo created the I Am Gifted! learning camp for children and teenagers.[4]
Inspired by Warren Buffett, Khoo got into stock investments at age 17. As a conservative and long-term investor, he goes for investments with very low risk and high returns.[4] [7] Khoo is the creator of Value Momentum Investing, an investment strategy that combines fundamental analysis and technical analysis.[8] [9]
In 2002, Khoo and Patrick Cheo founded Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group (AKLTG), a training and education center based in Singapore. The training center offers programs in finance, personal transformation, children & youth, corporate and school training conducted in various South East Asian countries. https://www.akltg.com/who-we-are/
In 2009, during the US bear market, Khoo co-authored the book Profit from the Panic called the bottom of the stock market crash. The book became a national best-seller in Singapore. Khoo was interviewed on CNA for his stock market analysis.[10]
In 2017, Khoo founded the Piranha Profits online school for investors and traders worldwide. In 2018, Khoo received the YouTube Silver Creator Award for exceeding 100,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel. As of June 2023, his channel has reached over 48 million views and 927,000 subscribers.[11]
On 19 March 2020, during the 2020 stock market crash, Khoo posted a video on Facebook expressing the view that the US stock market would recover strongly post the crisis. The video went viral and amassed over 843,000 views. On 10 April 2020, Khoo called the start of the bull run in a YouTube video.[12]
In 2021, his company was ranked top 8th at the Enterprise 50 Awards organized by The Business Times and KPMG.[13]
