Description

A type of speargrass with long spikes and a central flower.

Range

North Island of New Zealand, as well as some offshore islands like Mana Island.

Ecology

The common speargrass is the host plant for Lyperobius huttoni, the Speargrass Weevil.

Etymology

Squarrosa comes from the Latin for 'rough'.
