Dr. Abdirizak Omar Mohamed (Somali: Cabdirisaaq Cumar Maxamed, Arabic: عبد الرزاق عمر محمد) is a Somali politician. He was Minister of Natural Resources in Abdi Farah Shirdon cabinet from November 8, 2012, till the cabinet was ousted on December 2, 2013, and then moved on to become the Senior Policy Advisor to the President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. He was the Minister of Internal Security of Somalia. Currently he is the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for the Federal Government of Somalia, and hold this post since 12 August 2022. He is the former Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, having been appointed to the position on 6 February 2015 by the former Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke.[1]
On 12 August 2022, Mohamed was successful in being elected as the next Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Somalia.[2] As minister, Mohamed on 21 October 2022 helped finalize the signing of a large but controversial[3] deal that had been in the works since February with the U.S.-based oil and gas company Coastline Exploration Limited ("Coastline"). In exchange for a US$7 million signature bonus to the Central Bank of Somalia, Coastline was allowed to move forward with its exploration program for new oil fields off the Somali coast.[4] [5]
