Northern Express 1 (stylised as NX1) is an express bus route operated by Ritchies Transport on behalf of AT Metro. The service runs between Lower Albert Street in the Auckland CBD to Albany Bus Station (with selected journeys to Hibiscus Coast Bus Station) via the Northern Motorway and the Northern Busway.[1] NX1 mostly parallels NX2, which diverges from Fanshawe Street towards Auckland University.[2]

History

In 2008, when the Northern Busway opened, the route was originally named the "Northern Express" and shortened to "NEX" with MAXX branding and single deck buses. This branding included a dark blue livery and MAXX logos along all sides of the buses.

In 2015, 20 double deck buses were introduced to the Northern Express along with AT Metro branding on the new fleet.[3] [4]

On 30 September 2018, a completely new bus network was introduced to the North Shore, which included the renaming of the "Northern Express" to "NX1."[5] The Northern Express fleet has been completely revised and replaced with Alexander Dennis Enviro500 MMC and BCI CitiRider double decker buses with an AT Metro ocean blue, silver and yellow livery.
