The 8th Critics' Choice Documentary Awards, presented by the Critics Choice Association, were held on November 12, 2023, at the Edison Ballroom in New York City, to honor finest achievements in documentary filmmaking and non-fiction television.[1]

The ceremony was hosted by American comedian Wyatt Cenac for the second year in a row and, broadcast live on Facebook Live, YouTube and X.[2]

The nominations were announced on October 16, 2023. Matthew Heineman's American Symphony led the nominations with six, followed by , Kokomo City, and 20 Days in Mariupol, with five nominations each.[3] The category for Best True Crime Documentary was introduced.

American documentary filmmaker Ross McElwee will be honored with the Pennebaker Award (Lifetime Achievement Award).[4] received the most awards with five wins, including Best Documentary Feature, followed by 20 Days in Mariupol, American Symphony and The Deepest Breath, with two wins each.[5]
