General elections are due to be held in Malawi on September 16, 2025.[1]
Electoral system
The President of Malawi is expected to be elected using the two-round system following the annulment of the 2019 elections and the ruling of the Supreme Court on 8 May 2020, with a candidate requiring an absolute majority of the vote to win in the first round; if no candidate passes the 50% threshold, a second round will be held. The 193 members of the National Assembly are elected by first-past-the-post voting in single-member constituencies.[2]
