    The 2024 World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup is set to be the seventeenth Pacific Nations Cup (PNC) tournament, and the first with a new format design.[1] [2] Similar to the 2019 tournament, the same teams will play each other,[1] [2] with the same round-robin structure. However, unlike 2019 the 2024 edition is scheduled to have a finals series following the pool stage (hosted in Japan), to decide the champion.[1] [3] [4]

    Although Fiji, Japan, Samoa and Tonga did play each other in the lead-up to the 2023 Rugby World Cup (RWC), the PNC tournament did not involve the new permanent teams of Canada and the United States. The most recent winners of the tournament with six teams is Japan (2019). However the defending champions are Fiji.

    Canada

    Canada announced a 35-player training squad on 12 August 2024, which was reduced to a final 28-player squad on 21 August 2024.[5] [11] [12]

    Fiji

    On 13 August 2024 the Fijian team named a 30-player squad for their first test against Samoa.[6] [13]

    Japan

    On 7 August 2024, Japan's 35-member squad was announced for their tour to Canada.[7] [14] [15]

    Samoa

    Samoa's 31-player squad to take on Fiji in Suva was announced on 14 August 2024.[8] [16]

    Tonga

    On 17 August 2024 Tonga's squad was announced.[9]

    United States

    On 15 August 2024, a 31-man United States squad was announced.[10] [17]
