The elections will coincide with the U.S. presidential election, as well as other elections to the House of Representatives, elections to the United States Senate, and various state and local elections. The incumbent is Democrat Cori Bush, who was elected with 72.9% of the vote in 2022. Bush was considered vulnerable in this race and lost her primary to Wesley Bell.[1]

The primary, held on August 6, 2024, was the second most-expensive House primary in history, with $9 million in spending against Bush from United Democracy Project, AIPAC's super PAC.[2] [3] The organization targeted Bush after her criticism of Israel during the Israel–Hamas war.[4]
