2024 Nigeria Prize for Literature explained

The 2024 Nigeria Prize for Literature is a national literary prize sponsored by the Nigeria LNG that will be awarded in October 2024.

Background

The Nigeria Prize for Literature was established in 2004 and sponsored by the Nigeria LNG. However the process and judging are administered by Nigerian Academy of Science with advisory board made up of members from Nigeria Academy of Letters and Association of Nigerian Authors.^[1]

The prize received 163 entries of children novel with 11 entries selected to the longlist. The award will be given in October 2024.

The 2024 judging panel includes the following:^[2]

Saleh Abdu, (chair), professor of English language at the Federal University Kashere and Bayero University Kano. "He has authored and co-authored several books, including his Poet of the People's Republic: Reading the Poetry of Niyi Osundare (2003)."
Vicky Sylvester, a professor, writer at the University of Abuja.
Igudia Osarobu, doctor of Library Archival and Information Studies at the University of Ibadan.

Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo serves as the chair of the advisory board with Olu Obafemi and Ahmed Yerima as members of the advisory board while Christopher Okemwa, professor of Poetry and Drama at Kisii University serves as the international consultant.^[2] ^[3]
