The 2024 Maine State Senate election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, with the primary election using instant-runoff voting to be held on June 11, 2024, to elect the 132nd Maine Senate.[1] Voters in all 35 districts of the Maine State Senate will elect their senators. The elections will coincide with the elections for other offices, including for U.S. President, U.S. Senate, U.S. House and the Maine House of Representatives.

Background

Democrats have maintained control of the state senate since the 2018 election and the state house since the 2012 election.

Retirements

Seven incumbents will not seek re-election.

Democrats

  1. District 1: Troy Jackson is term-limited.
  2. District 16: David LaFountain is retiring.[2]
  3. District 24: Eloise Vitelli is term-limited.
  4. District 28: Ben Chipman is term-limited.

Republicans

  1. District 15: Matthew Pouliot is retiring.[3]
  2. District 19: Lisa Keim is term-limited (running for Oxford County Commission).[4]
  3. District 20: Eric Brakey is retiring.[5]
