The 2024 Kurdistan Region parliamentary election will be held on 20 October 2024.[1] Seats to the Kurdistan Region Parliament will be elected.[2]

Background

The 2024 parliamentary elections are set to be held after a two year delay. In February 2024, the Supreme Court of Iraq initially dismantled the 11 seats reserved to minorities, reducing the Parliamentary seats from 111 to 100. Nonetheless, the court partially walked back its decision by reallocating five seats to minorities.[3]

Moreover, the electoral system was changed, dividing the region into four constituencies replacing the single-constituency system.[4] The four constituencies are identical to the four governorates of Duhok, Erbil, Halabja and Sulaymaniyah.[5]

Participation

There are 2,899,578 eligible voters. A total of two alliances, 13 parties and 124 independent candidates will take part in the election.
