The 2024 Bengal Pro T20 League (also known as Sobisco Bengal Pro T20 League 2024 for sponsorship reasons) is the inaugural edition of the Bengal Pro T20 League, a franchise 20-over league in West Bengal, India. It is organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal. The tournament will host both the men's and women's tournaments simultaneously.[1] [2] [3] [4]
In 2024, the Bengal Pro T20 League was launched. The league was aimed to make up for the absence of high-profile matches in Kolkata every year and to expose talented players from districts. The former BCCI president and brother of current CAB president Snehasish Ganguly, Sourav Ganguly and former Indian women cricketer Jhulan Goswami were announced as the brand ambassadors of the league.[5] [6] This tournament will also host India's first state association-run women's franchise T20 league.[7]
The league is affiliated to the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI).
Eight city-based teams will compete during the school summer holidays. All men's and women's matches will be held on the same day. There will be 28 matches in the league stage of the tournament, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-final stage. The winners of both the semi-final matches will be the finalists. The final will be played on 28 June 2024 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
This year's edition will be played at two venues: The iconic Eden Gardens will host the men's matches, while the Jadavpur University Campus Ground will host all the women's fixtures. The final (both men and women) will be played at the Eden Gardens.
Viacom18 acquired the media rights for ₹7.1 crore and became the broadcast partner of the league. The deal is worth between ₹7.2 crore and ₹10 crore for the first year. Sports18 is the official TV broadcaster while JioCinema and Fancode are the official digital-broadcasters of the tournament.[8]
Eight franchises are competing in the league. The franchises are named after a city that is represented in the state. Each team can have a maximum of 17 players, including two outstation players.
