The 2024–25 season is Lion City Sailors' 29th consecutive season in the Singapore Premier League and the 5th season since privatising from Home United.[1] They will play in the 2024–25 AFC Champions League Two, which marked their 1st appearance at the competition and also the 2024–25 ASEAN Club Championship.[2]
The 2024–25 Singapore Premier League season will be the first season to be played having a two-year schedule where Lion City Sailors participated in the 2024 interim pre-season tournament from 23 February until 21 April. The interim pre-season tournament ensure that the players are adequately prepared for an extended new season that will span nearly 12 months. Lion City Sailors than play against Causeway rivals and 10th times Malaysia Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta'zim in a double-header fixture where the club played against Johor Darul Ta'zim on 4 and 8 April respectively.
Lion City Sailors than fly off to Thailand on 15 April in their 'Tour of Thailand' pre-season friendlies until 25 April where the club will participate in team bonding activities and as well play a series of friendly matches against quality local opposition. On the next day, Lion City Sailors played against Thai League 1 side Police Tero in which the club won 2–1. On 20 April, The Sailors faced their next pre-season friendly against Thai League 3 side, Samut Sakhon City winning them 3–1.
With the star studded players like Pedro Henrique, Súper, Diego Lopes and Kodai Tanaka leaving the club after the 2024 season concluded, Lion City Sailors sign former Croatian international player Toni Datković on 21 February from Segunda División club, Albacete. A few days later on 26 February 2024, the club announced that FC Utrecht player, Bart Ramselaar where his move to Singapore became the second most expensive signing in the league's history for a reported fee of about €1.5 million (SGD$2.2 million). On 7 March, Lion City Sailors announced the returned of Song Ui-Young to the club since he last left the club on 15 January 2023. Lion City Sailors also announced three under 21 player to the squad, Spanish player Sergio Carmona and brothers, Obren Kljajic and Novak Kljajic to the squad. On 31 May, the Sailors bought in Lennart Thy to replaced the outgoing player Richairo Živković.
On 4 May 2024, Lion City Sailors started off their 2024–25 season playing against Albirex Niigata (S) in the 2024 Singapore Community Shield. Maxime Lestienne steered the club to win the shield after providing an assist and scoring a goal in a 2–0 win which won him the 'Man of the Match' award. On 10 May, The Sailors won their first league match against Hougang United 4–1 with Ramselaar and Kljajic scoring in their debiut. On 18 May, The Sailors played against Young Lions in which Ramselaar, Lestienne and Shawal getting on the scoresheet in a 3–1 win while Bailey Wright got a red card in the match.
After the June International break, Lion City Sailors fixtures was against DPMM on 18 June was supposedly fix to play away at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium but technical issues force the match to be played at Jalan Besar Stadium instead which the Sailors won 2–0 with Shawal and Lestienne scoring in the 86th and the 90+5th minute to secure the win. On 23 June, Lion City Sailors picked up their highest ever win against Albirex Niigata (S) in a 7–1 thrashing win at home.
The team had a mixed performance in July and August 2024, winning 5 matches (against Tanjong Pagar United, Balestier Khalsa, Young Lions, Hougang United, and DPMM), lost 2 matches (against BG Tampines Rovers and Albirex Niigata (S)), and drew 1 match (against Geylang International). The team also lost in the AFF Club match against Borneo FC from Indonesia.
Overall, the team's performance was strong, especially in the second half of August. They scored a total of 21 goals and conceded 10 goals during this period.
