The 79th annual Venice International Film Festival was held from 31 August to 10 September 2022.[1] [2] [3] Noah Baumbach's White Noise was the festival's opening film, and Francesco Carrozzini's The Hanging Sun was the closing film.
American actress Julianne Moore was the Jury President of the Main competition. Laura Poitras' All the Beauty and the Bloodshed was the winner of the Golden Lion, making it the second documentary, following Gianfranco Rosi's Sacro GRA in 2013, to win the festival's top prize.
American filmmaker Paul Schrader and French actress Catherine Deneuve were awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
